Following a successful career in underwater electronic engineering both in Bass Strait and the North-West shelf, David sold his companies and bought a 40 acre property in the Perth Hills area. Keen to start something new, he, along with his wife Marika, established a nursery producing around 50000 apple rootstocks per annum as well as grafted and multi-grafted trees when Pink Ladies were first pioneered in WA.
In addition, developed the land further and planted 1800 plum trees on Palmette trellising with three export varieties, not realising that the absolutely back-breaking work really wasn’t a seriously profitable venture, contrary to what the WA Agriculture dept. maintained.
Seeing it was time to return to Victoria for family reasons, they purchased Country Fresh Herbs on Phillip Island wanting to live near to Melbourne but not in Melbourne. Operating NFT hydroponic systems CFH was already supplying Coles and many independents with fresh culinary herbs. Having now had 13 years’ experience with hydroponics and expanded their growing capabilities several times, they are spending as much time as feasible trying to establish Hydroponic growing systems in Mongolia as a philanthropic venture, with the HFF offering assistance where possible.
